“The
C.H.A.O.S. Clinic” premieres Thursday, July 21, 2005, 19:30pm,
on
England’s Five
Produced by Talkback Thames
Meg
Connell, “The Organized One,” (http://www.theorganizedone.com)
is straightening out the lives of England’s chronically disorganized
denizens using wit, wisdom, and a six-step program to achieving
streamline success in “The C.H.A.O.S. Clinic,”
(Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome). The stages of “recovery”
are: Confess Your Mess, Find A Buddy, Stop Hoarding Start Living,
Clear Out The Clutter, Order Out Of Disorder, and Together We Will
Conquer C.H.A.O.S.
The
eight-episode series follows Meg into the homes of hopeless hoarders
and obsessive shoppers, where her ironic, alternative, comedic,
and sometimes even outlandish techniques help clients face the facts
of their situations and get organized.
For
example, in the first episode, Meg helps a client admit to her compulsive
purchasing issues by turning the home into a “Meg-A-Store,”
with cosmetics on the ground floor, and lingerie upstairs, demonstrating
the perils of addictive buying and preening.
Later
episodes feature Meg as boot camp drill sergeant, space alien, spelunking
specialist; others have her dressing up some of her clients as Superman
and “mini-Meg”—all in fun, and in the service
of helping people to kick the clutter habit.
The
show also has a good time showcasing Meg’s seeming eccentricities
as an American stranger in a strange British land.
“The
techniques we use on the show are a little over the top,”
says Connell, whose successful fifteen-year organizing practice
has never employed costumes or stage sets stateside. “This
is TV, after all. The show has a lighthearted silliness to it, and
at the same time, it never loses sight of the goal—getting
the client organized.
“I
think that making people laugh while teaching them life-changing
principles is a good way to drive the message home—so to speak!”
she adds.
Produced
